UK government statistics for 2008 show UK exports to Egypt rose by 28% and Egyptian exports to the UK, in the same period, showed a rise of 11%.

While these figures fell back during 2009, they are showing remarkable resilience, with imports increasing by 14% and exports by 8% during the early part of 2010.

The UK is the largest foreign investor in Egypt, with cumulative investments estimated at around £10 billion.
