Two topics increasingly vex the UK's importers, the environment and congestion at the main container ports.
For over two years Allport have been working with train operators GB Rail and EWS to develop a freight train service that would alleviate some of the overcrowding at the ports and move traffic off the roads.
Today daily train services operate out of Felixstowe and Southampton to depots in the Midlands and North of England, carrying hundreds of Allport containers, that reduces the need for long distance road journeys and lessens the impact of delays at the port.
Local delivery from inland rail heads are made by road, utilising a drop & swap system which improves vehicle utilisation, reduces cost and the impact on the environment.
