The Festive Break

………………doesn't much exist for Allport's project specialists!

Project movements are defined as shipments that are too big, or hazardous for standard freight solutions, requiring planning and bespoke execution.

The range of cargo that can be defined in this way is immense, but it's usually time sensitive, requiring the intervention of engineers and other specialists, at pre-arranged times throughout transit and at destination.

Eddie MacDonald, senior manager in charge of project movements explains. "At any time Allport have a plethora of movements in survey, planning and execution. Oil exploration, heavy engineering and aircraft maintenance - for instance - are 24/7, 365 operations. Toulouse Christmas is just another day on an oilfield in Kazakhstan and our operations need to satisfy this continual demand, which is why our schedule is as busy in December, as it would be any other time."

Following is a snapshot from the project department's diary for December and January

  • Manage 110 tonne plant landing Port Said, Egypt 26th December
  • Flight training equipment returning to UK for repacking during Christmas
  • 300 tonne machinery ex Sheffield, for transport across the North Sea and transfer to barge in Low Countries
  • Site survey for flight simulator into Chongqing, China via Yangtse river barges
  • Route surveys into Sichuan early January, to include feasibility studies of movement via mountain roads
  • Aircraft charter to US, planning and implementing projects for Astana, Tripoli, Amman, Shenzhen, Beijing, Minneapolis, Qatar, Tokyo, Beijing
