Rehan Ahmed Khan, who secured the contract for Allport and is Operations Manager in Pakistan explains. "The turbines and their control panels, require regular servicing to keep them operating at their optimum capacity."

"These are complex, expensive and surprisingly sensitive power generators that require very careful handling and specialised transportation, often using modified equipment for the long journey back to GE engineers in the USA or Germany."

Allport Pakistan plan the route for each movement, ensuring there are no obstacles to impede transit, before craning the turbines - now loaded into specially designed transit dolly's - onto "air ride" low loader trailers, for the journey to Karachi airport.

Imported from Iran the "air ride" trailer is a rarity in Pakistan, but a necessity to protect the turbine on the 1400km journey to and from the airport, where they are transported by Boeing 747, one of the few aircraft large enough to transport them.
