Looking Upstream for Cost Savings

Allport SCM will be running the first trials of palletisation at origin in July for its customer, Fat Face.

Since beginning the partnership with Fat Face, SCM have been looking for ways to reduce costs within the supply chain. Dave Graham, Client Manager on the account, explains "When we took on the business we questioned why palletisation took place and whether we could move this back upstream to origin where the costs are far cheaper. The challenge is to ensure that we meet the same standards as we have in the UK without comprising overall lead time performance." Following the successful trial, a cost saving of more than £500 per 40ft container is expected to be achieved.
